Department: DSDI

Overview

Digital services play a central role in the digital economy and society. With the number of devices connected to the Internet growing exponentially, we will face the creation of even more advanced digital services in all areas of business and life.

Effective ways to conceive and develop digital innovations are crucial for the competitiveness of organizations. Even well-established product-focused industries are increasingly subject to “servitization” and therefore face new technological and managerial challenges. Enterprises and public organizations need to come to grips with disruptive technologies and business models of new digital services while simultaneously becoming more user-oriented through human-centered innovation and design.

This research department consists of members from the “Information Systems & Service Design” (Prof. Mädche) and the “Digital Service Innovation” (Prof. Satzger) group.

Research Topics

Thus, research is required to extend or adapt established approaches for the design and development of digital services. In this research department, we investigate methods, techniques, and tools for the innovation and design of digital services. We cover the entire digital service lifecycle ranging from strategy, discovery and innovation, design and development, transition, to operations.

We conceive and apply methods, techniques and tools for the design and innovation of digital services. We provide knowledge and guidance to leverage emerging technologies such as AI, Analytics, Blockchain, IoT for impactful services, business models, and service systems - emphasizing a human perspective designing for high usability and positive user experiences.
